Paper Pesto sponsored challenge !

This week dare is an extra special one! Paper Pesto are entirely sponsoring this weeks dare AND providing a spot prize for one of our lucky darer's too!
Paper Pesto distribute specialist paper and craft scrapbooking kits assembled in New Zealand.
We've chosen to work with a template for this dare, and the design team have used papers supplied by Paper Pesto in their January kit. The lucky winner of our Lucky Dip will receive a sample selection of the wonderful January kit as their prize.
These kits are truly gorgeous, and never fail to inspire - so make sure you hop on over to the
Paper Pesto site and check out their beautifully put together kits !

Just before we show the template and let you all get on with making your fab cards, we'd like to welcome Sue Hyde to the Design Team. Sue joined us as a Guest Designer a few weeks ago and was such an asset that we couldn't let her go! Sue's cards are always beautifully designed and full of detail, she can turn her hand to just about any technique and the amount of care and thought she puts into her work is second to none, she's also the sort of person who will take time to answer questions and willingly share her expertise.
Welcome to the Team Sue, it's fab to have you join us "full-time"!

Okay, so here's the tempting template we would like you to follow, and here's some of the design teams cards based on the template using papers and embellishments from the Paper Pesto January kit. Don't forget, there is a gorgeous spot prize up for grabs, the happy winner will be randomly picked and announced once the week is up, so you have till next friday's new dare is announced to show us your card - you got to be in to win as they say!
Remember, there are two ways to share your lovely creations with us and the other darers; leave us a comment including a link to your card or send us a piccy of your card to daringcarmakers@hotmail.co.uk and we can add it to the gallery for all to view.
Many, many thanks once again to Kate and the team at Paper Pesto for supplying the design team and the spot prizes for our darers !

A Little Extra Doodling..

Hi all, this week's little extra is the first of our little mid week tutorials...

It's Jo here this week to inspire you to add a little penwork to your card;

'One of the quickest, easiest and best of all, cheapest(!) ways to add your own personal touch to a card is to add a doodled border. I love doodling, I am far from being an artist but the most wonderful thing about doodling is that it doesn't have to be perfect, infact, randomness is good :).

This week, I would love your little extra card to be a little doodled border on your card, be it dots, stripes or little faux stitches.'

Black and white pens are two of my craft essentials, I find that a white gel pen is pretty handy to have but don't really use a particular black pen, you could even use a felt tip....

(click on the piccies for a close up view...)

or you could add a striped border for a quick and simple addition to your card; add the border and then trim the shape. This means that the finished shape is nice and neat, inking the edges helps to define the shape too....

but you can of course print or doodle straight on to your card and fill in the gaps with a white pen....

or make a 'faux' stitched border - use a pricking tool to add holes and then join them with a fine black pen....

Have fun and I can't wait to see what you create :).

Red and White

Hiya everyone ! Its Friday again and the weeks of 2008 seem to be flying by already ! Thank you all for your wonderful creations submitted for Jo's 'Foiled' dare - wasn't it a great dare ? Everyone did a fantastic job rising to the challenge to both that and the mid week dare- Thank you all.

This week's and next week's dare are team dares - and we've decided to go nice and easy on you guys, as the past few dares have been pretty tricky ! This week, we decided on a colour combination for a change. We want you to design a card using only RED AND WHITE on your cards- it doesn't have to be a Valentine themed card - it can be any theme- as long as use incorporate RED and WHITE on it. So there you go ! Not too bad really eh? We look forward to seeing what you come up with. Here's some of the Design Team creations to get you thinking on the red and white track !

As always, there are two ways to share your designs with us, either leave a comment here- with a link to your card/blog or email/ scan a piccy of your card and send it to daringcardmakers@hotmail.co.uk- and we will add it to our gallery for all to view.

Now, last week we mentioned how Paper Pesto have offered us some spot prizes to give out to one or two of our lucky contributors........and I have the first of these prizes in my hand out to send to the lucky winner- all you had to do was take part in last weeks dare- and let us know about it. A winner has been selected at random from all who took part .........and the lucky winner is.................

Rosie! (Alterd art and Stuff)

Congratulations, Rosie! drop me a note at cardsbyjane@ihug.co.nz with your address and I will send out your Paper Pesto spot prize !

Happy daring everyone ! More spot prizes soon.

Remember to leave a comment so we can pop over to see your foiled creations.

We do visit every Blog and try to leave as many comments as possible. There are so many amazing creations that we can't all leave a comment - we hope you understand.

You can still join in the fun if you don't have a Blog, just send a Photo/scan to the team at;

daringcardmakers@hotmail.co.uk

Sending in the Substitute!

Today's Little Extra was going to feature a tutorial by the fabby Jo which we hoped would inspire you to get creating. But poor Jo's been poorly all night and hasn't been able to upload it, so we'll just have to hang on a bit longer for that one - it'll be something to look forward to though. Hope you're feeling better really soon, Jo.

Tempting Template
In the meantime here's a card sketch for you to play with. Remember, you can twist, shrink, stretch and even turn it upside down - as long as we can find the basic plan in there use this sketch in whatever way you like. Just remember to come and tell us where we can see what you've made. Here are cards from Rachel, Kathy and Sue to help get you started

Hide and Seek

Hi there, It's me, Kathy, here to set the challenge this week, but before I do we'd all like to say a big "Thank you" to everyone who's joined in with Jane's "Me & My Shadow" dare and this week's Little Extra. We love to see all your wonderful cards and hope you enjoy visiting all the blogs as much as we do.g all the blogs as much as we do.

Okay, for my dare we're heading to the playground for a game of
Hide & Seek
I'd like you to make a card which has a hidden component of some sort.
The hidden part could be a tag, a concealed photo, message or something along those lines, maybe a pull-out or pop-up.
Anything goes as lon
g as there's something extra for the recipient to find on your card that's not immediately visible when they open the envelope.
The Design Team have made some fab cards to help get you thinking - but you'll have to visit their personal blogs to see the hidden extra!

Joining in with the DCM is easy, just leave a message with a link to your blog or wherever else we can see your card on the comments thread and we'll pop over to see your Hide & Seek cards. Alternatively you can email a photo to our gallery at daringcardmakers@hotmail.co.uk

Our Mid Week Tribute !

Hello everyone !

Thank you once again for rising to the challenge so brilliantly and coming up with so many beautiful cards for the 'Me and My Shadow' dare. I was amazed at how many people took up the challenge and produced some absolutely gorgeous cards. Well done everyone !

Now, as you are probably aware, both Lynne and Gillian sadly stepped down from the Design team recently, and all though the DCM team's door is always open for them, we thought it would be nice to pay a little tribute to them in appreciation for all their wonderful work during their time on the DCM design team. Lythan came up with an idea that we make a card in the 'style' of either Lynne or Gillian's cards. Or maybe pick your favourite of theirs and use an element from their cards on your own card. Everyone has their own style- we thought it might be a little challenge to try out a different style for a change!

Once again we on the design team would like to wish Gillian and Lynne well on their new ventures and hope to maybe see them joining us for the occasional dare in the future, time permitting.

Now as always, you can share your designs with us in one of two ways, either leave a comment and include the link to your card /blog or drop us a line at daringcardmakers@hotmail.co.uk with your piccy and we will add it to our DCM gallery.

Now here's a few from the design team to share with you from Rhi, Lythan, Keryn, Sue, Jo and Rachel...
